Guagua express: two attempts
A game about driving a guagua, the local bus, made twice: first with the prompt you write by hand, then with what you learned.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
Create a browser game where the player drives a guagua (a Dominican local bus), seen from above, along an avenue with five stops, a market and a roundabout. At each stop there are passengers waiting, and each one wants to get off somewhere different; you have to drop them off on time without going over the capacity of 12 passengers, although the fare collector always says two more will fit. What makes the trip harder: a traffic jam that appears halfway, a motorbike taxi that cuts across and rain that makes the road slippery. At the end of the route, the game shows how many passengers arrived on time. The passengers are made-up figures with one short line each; none of them is a real person.
3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A tool that generates code for browser games, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- Write the prompt by hand on a card, as a team of three, before touching any device.
- Before pasting anything, write by hand: “What we think will come out: ______.” When you see the result, note whether what you expected came out or not.
- After attempt 1, each team says one sentence that starts with C1, C2 or C3. Rewrite the card and do attempt 2.
- In the final listening, answer the question on the board: did this make the prompt better, or the question better?
- C1: someone from another country would understand what a guagua is just by playing.
- C2: there is one detail of the trip that only someone who rides it every day would know.
- C3: we can say whether, between attempt 1 and attempt 2, the prompt got better or the question got better, and why.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
