Football with a rule that does not exist
February project: a playable football game with a rule your team invents, writes and defends.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
Create a top-down football game for the browser, for two players on the same keyboard (WASD and the arrow keys; kick with F and with Enter). Each team has a single player and an automatic goalkeeper. The pitch and colors are inspired by a Real Madrid vs Barça clásico, but the teams and players are made up. The new rule, which does not exist in real football, is: every goal makes the scoring team's own goal smaller. Show that rule on screen before kickoff. The match lasts 2 minutes, with a golden goal if it is a draw. When it ends, show the score and how many times the new rule was used. Write the code in a single file and add a comment showing where the rule can be changed.
3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A tool that generates code for browser games, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- First write the rule by hand and play it on paper or with a paper ball: if it does not work there, it will not work on screen.
- Play it five times and note whether the rule makes the match fairer, crazier or more boring. Tell the tool in exactly those words.
- Keep the code comment showing where the rule changes: you will adjust it in the next Unit.
- C1: the new rule really changes how the game is played; it is not decoration.
- C2: someone from another team understands it by reading a single sentence on screen.
- C3: the team can explain why it chose that rule and what it ruled out.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
