Is this cheating?
A 3-minute debate episode on when using AI for an assignment is cheating and when it is not. The room gives its view first; the machine, after.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
We are going to record a 3-minute debate podcast about this situation: someone asks an AI to explain a topic step by step and then writes the essay without it. Our position, written before asking you, is: it is not cheating if you can explain what you hand in without the AI. Write a script for two voices: one defends our position and the other argues the opposite, and the opposite side has to be strong, not a straw man. Each voice gives two reasons and answers one of the other voice's reasons. End with an open question for the listener, without saying who won. Do not invent studies or figures.
3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A text assistant for the script; for the recording, your own voice in the classroom or a generic synthetic voice from the catalog, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- The room first, the machine after: 3 minutes with phones face down to write your hypothesis; only then do you paste the prompt.
- Before pasting anything, write by hand: “What we think will come out: ______.” When you see the result, note whether what you expected came out or not.
- After attempt 1, each team of three says which of the other voice's reasons they had not thought of. In attempt 2, change the situation, not just the wording.
- Which of our hypotheses was better than the machine's, and why?
- C1: the opposing position is so strong that someone could change their mind.
- C2: each voice gives reasons, not just opinions.
- C3: we can say whether, between attempt 1 and attempt 2, the prompt got better or the question got better, and why.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
