Create a simple web page that works on a phone and offline, to solve this real problem at a school: nobody knows which balls and cones were lent out, or whether they came back. The person who will use it is the person in charge of the sports storeroom. The minimum it has to do: log a loan and a return with one tap, and show what still hasn’t come back. It must be so simple that it can be used without any explanation. It doesn’t ask for or store the names of minors or any personal data; if something needs to be identified, it uses numbers or codes. It stores information only in the device’s browser. Explain to me how to change the text on the buttons.

3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.

Where it is made: An assistant that builds interactive browser pages (HTML and JavaScript), the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.

How to personalise it
  1. Before writing the instruction, interview the person who will use it: five minutes and three questions. What they say is what counts.
  2. Have them try attempt 1 and write down where they got stuck. That’s attempt 2.
  3. One feature that gets used is worth more than five nobody touches.
Did it work?
  • C1: the person who needs it uses it without help.
  • C2: it solves the problem they named, not one we made up.
  • C3: it doesn’t store anyone’s personal data.

And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
