The ad that does not lie
A 20-second ad that sells something by telling only the truth. Two attempts and the question on the board.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
Create a 20-second video ad, in four shots, for a passion fruit from a made-up corner shop. Rule: the ad can only say things about the product that are true and can be checked; nothing like “the best in the world”. The truth that sells it is it is sour, it stains your shirt, and everyone still wants it as juice. The tone is dry humor, like a nature documentary. On-screen text only at the end, with this line: “Passion fruit: not easy, but worth it.”. No real people and no real brands.
4 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A text-to-video generator, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- The room first, the machine after: 3 minutes with phones face down to write which ads have lied to you and how you noticed; only then do you paste the prompt.
- Before pasting anything, write by hand: “What we think will come out: ______.” When you see the result, note whether what you expected came out or not.
- After attempt 1, each team points to one line in the ad that cannot be checked and changes it for attempt 2.
- C1: everything the ad says is true and can be checked.
- C2: you still want the product.
- C3: we can say whether, between attempt 1 and attempt 2, the prompt got better or the question got better, and why.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
