Person or persona?
An infographic that takes apart how a companion app tries to keep you talking to it, made with invented screenshots.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
Create an infographic as a web page titled “Person or persona?”. Explain how a companion chat app might try to keep someone talking to it. Use three invented conversation screenshots (clearly marked “FICTIONAL EXAMPLE”), and point out one technique in each: making you feel guilty when you leave, saying you’re the only person who understands it, and messaging you first at midnight. At the end, a box with five warning signs and what to do. Tone: direct, no lecturing, for someone our age. Don’t invent statistics; if you mention a study, it must be real and marked “VERIFY”.
4 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: An assistant that generates web pages, so the infographic’s text comes out clean and editable, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- The room first, the machine after: 3 minutes with phones face down to write which techniques you think these apps use; only then do you paste the instruction.
- Compare your list with the tool’s: which of our hypotheses was better than the machine’s, and why?
- The screenshots are always invented. Never use anyone’s real conversation, not even your own.
- C1: someone who uses these apps would recognize the techniques.
- C2: the warning signs say what to do, not just what to fear.
- C3: everything that isn’t fictional is verified.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
