The merengue of your carnival character
A fast merengue that introduces a carnival character you invented, with its mask, its dance and its story.
Fill in the spaces and watch it change
Create a fast merengue, about 2 minutes long, with tambora, güira, accordion and brass, and a chorus a group can shout together. The song introduces a made-up carnival character: a she-devil who carries an umbrella instead of the inflated bladder carnival devils swing, and chases anyone who isn’t dancing. Its mask is papier-mâché, with seashell horns and little mirrors that shine in the February sun. Structure: a short instrumental intro, a verse that tells where it comes from, chorus, a verse that tells what it does when it arrives in a neighborhood, and a final chorus with a wild accordion run. These are the lyrics, written by me: Chorus: She’s here, she’s here, the umbrella lady’s here!…
3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A music generator that takes lyrics, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- Look at photos of carnival masks from your province before inventing yours: the new character has to look like part of the family.
- The chorus should fit in one breath: if you can’t shout it, shorten it.
- Ask for a second, slower version and compare which one feels more like your character.
- C1: you could draw the character from what the song says alone.
- C2: you learn the chorus the first time.
- C3: you can tell it’s merengue, not just any fast rhythm.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
