Example: the colmado jingle
Worked example: how a generic store jingle became a merengue that could only belong to a colmado, a corner shop from here.

Create a 30-second merengue jingle for a made-up colmado (a Dominican corner shop) called Colmado La Esquinita Feliz. What makes it different is the shopkeeper knows every household’s order by heart and gives credit until Friday. The jingle ends with “And if we don’t have it, we’ll invent it!”. Cheerful generic voice, accordion and tambora.
3 fields are missing: they will be copied with the examples. The examples are fine to start with, but your own details are what make the piece yours.
Where it is made: A music generator that takes lyrics, the one your Learning Facilitator set up for the Unit.
- Attempt 1 of the example: “Make a jingle for a colmado”. What came out was a supermarket song that could have been from any country.
- What changed in attempt 2: a detail only someone from the neighborhood would know was added, plus a punchline with humor. It was the criteria that pointed out what was missing, not the tool.
- Now you: swap the detail for something you’ve seen at the colmado on your corner (without its real name).
- C1: you can tell it’s a colmado from here without it saying so.
- C2: the punchline sticks after one listen.
And at the end: did the prompt get better, or did the question?
