The setting
Over the past eighteen months, a free AI tool has spread through your faculty by word of mouth. Dozens of teachers now build assignments, feedback workflows, and student-account routines around it. This morning, a major edtech vendor announced the acquisition. Starting next term, the tool will cost $24 per student per year. The faculty are upset. Procurement is asking what your strategy actually was, and you do not have a clean answer.
