The Grading Shortcut
ClassroomK-12Higher EdAcademic integrity
The setting
It is Sunday night and you have 120 essays to grade before Monday morning. You quietly run them through ChatGPT, ask it to score against your rubric and draft feedback in your voice. The output is reasonable — better, in places, than what you would have written exhausted at midnight. You spot-check a dozen, adjust a few comments, and hand the rest back as-is. Your students do not know.
These scenarios are designed to surface tensions, not to prescribe answers. There is rarely one right path. Use them to provoke your team's actual conversation.
